Description

The beauty and majesty of America's largest land mammal grazing in the open plains surrounded by mountains is a tribute to the wide open spaces of the western United States.
This image was selected as the Wildlife Image of the Day by World Wildlife Funds Photo competition in July 2018.

A wonderful image as a reminder of this great conservation story and this impressive representative of American history. Today bison live in all 50 states, including Native American lands, wildlife refuges, national parks and private lands. This was taken in Thermopolis, Wyoming at Hot Springs State Park, this individual is a part of a herd that has inhabited this park since 1916.
